How Mobile is Changing the World.
The evolution of social media and the invention of iGovernment.
The ubiquitous presence of mobile devices and their ever-increasing functionality is changing the way that people search for information, communicate, and interact. These trends, combined with the evolution of social media, is putting tremendous pressure on businesses and governments alike to adapt. The impacts are wide-reaching – from communication to outreach, program delivery, and political engagement, governments need to wake up and start realizing how mobile is changing the world.

On Wednesday, October 19^th between 11:30 am – 12:30 pm on the main stage of the Exhibition Room, come and listen to Jennifer Savage, President of WebDrive Canada, Head of the Web and Mobile Association of Canada and author of Government’s Role in a Mobile Society, speak about how governments need to evolve in order to remain relevant in this game-changing societal shift.

Don’t have much time and need to update your Website? No worries. Here are three things you can do to add valuable information to your Website in 30 minutes, or less.

1. Add a Link to Cool Information.

Did you just read an interesting article in the newspaper, a news item on an industry site or even a “fun” story that has nothing to do with your business?

Well, if you thought it provided value, your customers probably will too. Add a quick link to the information on your blog, newsroom or social media page. After all, customers like to hear about things happening outside of your business too.

2. Answer a Question.

Have you received a lot of questions from your customers lately? Try to figure out the most popular question in the last month. Then, take a few minutes to write the answer in a quick, Q and A column.

You can add this information to your home page, blog and other, social media sites.

3. Write an Update.

How long has it been since you told your customers what the business has been up to? Write a quick letter to your customers and bullet point all of the new things happening. You can write about upcoming events, new partnerships and fresh benefits that you are providing to help fulfill customer needs.

And to keep it fun, include something personal. This can be something like how your staff is feeding a stray cat that arrives at the office each morning, how you tried surfing over the summer and are glad to be back in the office on dry land, or a tip on how to prepare for the upcoming holidays.

Keep It Simple.

By sharing information with your customers, you provide value and a personal touch. And this doesn’t need to be complicated. Simply prepare a few sentences, write some bullet points or provide a link to the full story on another site.

In just a few minutes, you can update your site with new information and keep your customers happy.

Advanced knowledge of XML, PHP, Drupal, WordPress and social media integration are desired. Experience with HTML5 and mobile platforms aren’t necessary but would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Participate in requirements gathering and project scoping
• Participate in conceptualization and ideation of projects
• CMS server and site setup, extension management
• Web development and component integration
• Testing, QA and debugging
• Coordinate with IT suppliers and sub-contractors
• Develop system and user documentation
• Troubleshooting and 2nd level support

Qualifications
• University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• 5-7 years programming experience
• Strong experience in:
o HTML/XHTML
o CSS
o XML
o MYSQL
o ASP/PHP
o Javascript
o Social media components (Third-party APIs)
o Content management systems (Drupal, Joomla, WordPress)

• Experience with the following is an asset:
o Flash/Flash ActionScript
o Mobile development (iPhone/Android/Blackberry)
o MS SharePoint
o HTML5
• Must have a strong and diverse, verifiable website development portfolio.

Work Habits
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (bilingualism is an asset but English is a must)
• Must be results-driven, proactive, self-motivated, and a team player
• Must be able to work well under pressure and within defined timelines
• Must be able to work on a number of projects for a number of clients at the same time
• Must be detailed-oriented with an orderly, systematic approach to working
• Must have an interest in keeping current with web and mobile trends and new, innovative technologies
