The Challenge

Senior Management at CIDA had decided to up-date their website both internal and external. The goal was to revise the approach to both web entities by creating a comprehensive Web strategy that would address the Agency’s communications goals and objectives, their target audience, their current structure and possible limitations, and to incorporate the use of Web 2.0 tools.

Our Solution

WebDrive was engaged to assist CIDA in the development of their intranet and internet strategy.  Both the internet and the intranet strategy included social media (Web 2.0) options and encompassed the following tasks:

  • Identify the communications goals (external and internal) of the Agency.  This analysis was done on the key communication goals of the Agency and the messaging strategy that was currently underway.
  • Identify target audience and user needs based on existing resources/materials/findings available at CIDA and conduct some additional research as required to form the basis of the Audience Needs Analysis.
  • Analyze the current intranet/internet structure, functionality and content.
  • Investigate the strategic requirements of the intranet/internet within the new structure and taking into account the increasingly decentralized CIDA environment.
  • Investigate and capture the Aid Community’s use of social media on the web, an overview of communications within the wider aid community to determine leverage opportunities and potential challenges.
  • Audit current web and traditional outreach methods.  Discuss with communications team and other stakeholders within the Agency to learn about the current outreach/communication methods within CIDA as well as their views on how the web can address their communication/promotion/outreach needs.
  • Explore technology capabilities, including operational tools to assess what is technologically possible within the CIDA environment.
  • Utilize the information gained from the tasks above, and develop an overarching web communication and social media strategy for both the  intranet/internet that would leverage the success of current marketing methods and propose new web communication methods.
  • Develop wireframes and then the new designs for both the internet and intranets.

Results

The sites were launched to great fanfare. The Agency received accolades from other organizations in the international aid sector and were recognized within Federal circles for the usability-oriented design and comprehensive functionality.
